Viper was designed with simplicity in mind.  It contains only four ingredients which collectively aim to provide:

Can a formula this simple really be as effective as the makers of Viper are saying it is?  Let’s dive into the ingredients and see for ourselves, shall we?

Viper Ingredients

L-Citrulline DL-Malate

Citrulline is a precursor to the amino acid Arginine which is then used in the production of Nitric Oxide.  Supplementing with Citrulline is actually a more effective means of increasing Nitric Oxide than supplementing with Arginine, because Arginine is subject to breakdown by the amino acid Arginase.  In a sense, Citrulline is the pump-enhancer than Arginine is supposed to be.  It can effectively increase blood-flow to the muscles, giving you better pumps and better workouts overall.

Beyond Nitric Oxide production, Citrulline is involved in the Urea Cycle.  That is, the cycle by which the body takes toxic byproducts like Ammonia and converts them into the harmless substance Urea which is then easily excreted in the form of Urine.

By reducing Ammonia build-up in muscle tissue, Citrulline can increase the amount of reps you are able to perform later on in your workout, when fatigue would normally set it.

Creatine Monohydrate

Creatine Monohydrate is the most reliable form of Creatine.  It’s really all you need.  Other “designer” forms of Creatine have nothing more to offer, other than high prices and boarder-line unethical marketing.

Creatine Monohydrate is just as well absorbed as any other form and has been shown to:

  • Increase Strength
  • Increase Muscle Size
  • Reduce Soreness
  • Enhance Recovery

Creatine takes time to accumulate in muscle tissue and must be taken more or less daily for atleast a few weeks for the effects to become apparent.  For that reason, it’s not necessarily important when you take it.  What’s more important is how much you take.

Ideally, Creatine should be dosed upwards of 5g daily, but Viper Pre-Workout contains just 3g/serving.  Technically, 3g is a “clinical dose”, having been shown to be the bare minimum required to elicit strength and muscle gains, but if you really want to get the most from Creatine you may want to take more.  It’s pretty cheap after all…


Beta-Alanine is a beta-amino acid which serves as a precursor to Carnosine, a  dipeptide (composed of Beta-Alanine and Histidine), higher muscular concentrations of which are associated with better muscular endurance.

Carnosine works by reducing Lactic Acid build-up in muscle tissue, effectively preserving muscle function and delaying fatigue.  In other words, it’ll make you train harder and longer, ultimately helping you build more muscle in a shorter amount of time.

Since Beta-Alanine is the rate-limiting factor in Carnosine synthesis, supplementing with Beta-Alanine alone is sufficient to boost muscle Carnosine levels.  Since Beta-Alanine has been extensively-researched at this point, a clinical range of 3-6g/day has been established but doses as low as 1.6g may still be effective in the longrun.

Like Creatine, Beta-Alanine takes time to accumulate in muscle so it’s important to take high doses if you’re only taking it on workout days vs. everyday.


Caffeine essentially form the basis for all stimulant-based pre-workouts.  Because it is the only stimulant, the focus and energy aspect of Viper is dependent on it.  200mg is enough to make the average (non-caffeine user) feel very alert and focused, but long-time caffeine users may not even feel anything at all.

This is simply because repetitive Caffeine use increases your body’s tolerance to Caffeine pretty rapidly.  That’s the real drawback to Caffeine.  It’s perfectly safe, it just stops working so well after a while.

Viper Ingredient Takeaway

The ingredient profile of Viper is simple yet extremely effective.  Each ingredient is dosed to precise clinical standards and, assuming you’re not a heavy Caffeine user, it’ll give you a decent jolt of energy.  It contains no BS pseudo-scientific ingredients, only what works.

Is Viper Safe?

Yes, compared to most other pre-workouts, the safety profile of Viper is quite strong.  The only stimulant is Caffeine and 200mg is well within what is considered safe for the average person to consume.  Nothing to worry about there.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a no-nonsense, simple, effective pre-workout, then Viper is worth a try.  It contains only clinically effective doses of well-researched ingredients.  Nothing extra.  It’s certainly a breathe of fresh air considering that the pre-workout market seems to be moving toward the “everything but the kitchen sink” type formulation.  Sometimes simple is better…
