Pronabolin: An Evidence-Based Review

Pronabolin is an all-natural testosterone booster which is supposed increase libido, improve sexual function, and boost free testosterone levels in men.  Needless to say, these claims are made by about a million other companies that manufacture similar products and most of those don’t work at all.  So, is Pronabolin any different?

Most of the websites that talk about Pronabolin don’t actually show the Supplement Facts panel which leads us to believe that they’re mostly controlled by the company that makes the product and they would rather not have you analyzing their label.  Since Pronabolin is available on Amazon, however, we were able to obtain the Supplement Facts panel.

Pronabolin Ingredients

Most of the ingredients in Pronabolin are the same ingredients found in so many other test-boosters.  There is really nothing special about this formula.  However, unlike most competing products, the Pronabolin supplement facts panel is actaully transparent, meaning we can see the doses of individual ingredients.  This makes it very easy to indentify which ones work and which ones don’t.

Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus is an herbal aphrodisiac with a pretty extensive history of use in traditional medicine.  Although many supplement companies claim that it boosts free Testosterone, research shows otherwise.  Tribulus has failed in multiple studies to have any sort of influence on Testosterone levels, so the aphrodisiac properties are non-hormonal.

This doesn’t make it completely useless, but it’s certainly not an effective test-booster.  If you’re looking to enhance your libido though, Tribulus is worth considering.  With 650mg of Tribulus in each serving, Pronabolin has what it takes to make you a little more horny and sexual aroused, but again, it won’t boost Testosterone.

Fenugreek is yet another herbal extract that is commonly promoted as a Testosterone booster.  To be fair, one study showed increased Testosterone levels in subjects taking a Fenugreek supplement, but other studies have failed, so it can’t be considered reliable.

As a libido enhancer, Fenugreek is actaully pretty effective and you may notice some enhanced sexual function, but it is not an effective muscle-builder.

Coleus Forskohlii

Coleus Forsohlii is generally standardized for the active compound, Forskolin, which has been shown to increase Testosterone levels in males and improve body composition.  It’s one of the few ingredients in Pronabolin that may actaully work to increase Testosterone, though any increase is likely to be slight and not enough to induce any sort of accelerated muscle growth.

Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine as a liver tonic.  Research indicates that it possesses antioxidant properties and can reduce liver damage.  As for why it’s included in Pronabolin, we have no idea.

Most likely, the manufacturers of Pronabolin just want to make it seem like you need to liver support, as is the case with Prohormones, as a way of making you think the product really works.  To be clear, there is nothing liver toxic about Pronabolin becauase it’s not a prohormone.  It’s just a bunch of herbs.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a versatile antioxidant compound that is both water and fat soluble.  It has a variety of potential roles in the body, but mostly it’s involved in detoxification.  Again, this seems like a ploy by the makers of Pronabolin to convince you that the supplement is powerful enough for you to need supports…but it’s not.

Eurycoma Longifolia

Eurycoma Longifolia, also known as Tongkat Ali, is an herbal aphrodisiac capable of restoring Testosterone levels in instances of abnormally low Testosterone levels.  It will NOT boost Testosterone above the normal range, but may be useful in individuals who have decliend Test and just want to bring it back up to the normal range.

Aside from that, it may make you a little hornier.

Horny Goat Weed

Horny Goat Weed is standardized for the active compound, Icariin, which is a potent PDE inhibitor.  PDE inhibitors are capable of increasing Nitric Oxide-induced vasodilation and improving blood flow, so they are commonly used in cases of Erectile Dysfunction.

There is no evidence to suggest that Horny Goat Weed can increase Testosterone in humans, but Icariin has demonstrated Testosterone mimicking properties in mice, so that’s probably why it’s included in the Pronabolin formula.

Pronabolin Ingredient Takeaway

The ingredients in Pronabolin are basically the same as the ingredients in many other natural test-boosters.  Some of them may help keep Testosterone levels in the optimal, normal range, but none of them have been proven to boost Testosterone beyond the normal range to the point where increase muscle protein synthesis occurs.  For that reason, Pronabolin isn’t really an effective muscle-builder.

Is Pronabolin Safe?

Pronabolin is entirely safe.  Every ingredient in it has been studied clinically and no known adverse effects have bene reported.

Pronabolin Dosing

As far as these types of natural test-boosters go, Pronabolin is actually fairly well-dosed.  The transparent label makes it easy to tell that most of the ingredients are present at clinical (or near clinical) doses, so as a libido enhancer and sexual performance supplement, Pronabolin is actually pretty solid.  It’s just not going to boost your Testosterone to extreme levels.

The Bottom Line

The problem with most natural test-boosters is that they make it seem like you’ll experience accelerated muscle growth, as if you were on steroids.  While it is true that elevating your Testosterone to high enough levels will directly increase muscle protein synthesis rates and subsequently increase muscle mass over time, Pronabolin is not capable of boosting your Testosterone that much.  That most you can hope for is a slight increase which may make you feel a bit more energized and sexually aroused, but won’t induce any sort of meaningful muscle growth.
