Primeval Labs Vasogorge: An Evidence-Based Review

Vasogorge is a pump-enhancement supplement by Primeval Labs.  It contains just four active ingredients, each with a different mechanism, but with the same goal…

Primeval Vasogorge

VasoGorge Claims

Primeval claims essentially the same list of claims that most makers of pump-enhancement supplement claim, but perhaps their list is a bit longer.  According to the Vasogorge page on Primeval’s site, the key benefits include:

  • Insane Muscle Pumps
  • Support Performance
  • Better Endurance
  • Increased Blood Flow
  • Insane Vascularity
  • Better Recovery
  • Increased Glucose Utilization
  • Increased Availaility of Energy

So, the question is: Can 4 active ingredients provide all of these benefits?  Let’s take a look at the ingredient profile of Vasogorge and find out…

Vasogorge Ingredients

Vasogorge contains just 4 active ingredients, all of which can be found in various other pump-enhancement products at similar (or higher) doses.

HydroMax Glycerol

HydroMax is a standardized form of Glycerol, an osmolytic substance which can increase the amount of water in muscle cells (all cells actaully) thereby improving hydration status.

As a performance enhancer, HydroMax is really only useful if you’re engaging in long-duration exercise where dehydration becomes a contributing factor to fatigue.  As a pump agent, however, it may be quite effective.

The important thing to kep in mind with Glycerol is that how much of a pump you get will depend on 2 things:

  1. How much Glycerol you supplement with
  2. How much water you drink

Vasogorge contains a pretty hefty 1500mg doose of HydroMax Glycerol in each serving, meaning all you really need to do is drink a bunch of water along with it to experience some pretty powerful pumps.

L-Arginine Alpha Keto-Glutarate

L-Arginine Alpha Keto-Glutarate, commonly referred to as Arginine AKG, which is said to be a novel form of Arginine (since ordinary L-Arginine is ineffective as a performance enhancer).

Unfortunately, not many studies have investigated the performance enhancement or blood flow benefits of Arginine AKG compared to other forms of Arginine, but multiple studies using Arginine AKG have failed to show benefit with regards to exercise performance.

Why anyone would include Arginine AKG after it has failed outright to influence exercise performance, we have no idea.  Maybe Primeval just didn’t read that particular study…

AgmaMax Agmatine

Agmatine is metabolite of Arginine which has been shown, in vitro, to enhance the activation of Nitric Oxide Synthase, the enzyme responsible for catalyzing the production of Nitric Oxide.

By up-regulating this enzyme, Agmatine should be able to increase Nitric Oxide levels and offer better pumps, blood flow, and nutrient delivery, but it hasn’t been studied in humans.

There are some preliminary studies which indicate Agmatine may be able to improve Glucose utilization (hence why Primeval made that claim), but we need MANY more studies before we can draw solid conclusions about how Agmatine should impact human health and performance.

Vasogorge contains 750mg of Agmatine, a pretty standard dose as far as most pump-enhancer supplements go.

Beet Root Powder

Beet Root Powder is generally used in pump-enhancement supplements because Beets themselves contain relatively high levels of naturally occurring Nitrate.

Nitrate supplementation, either from whole Beet Root or Beet Root juice, has been shown to improve endurance capacity in multiple studies and is considered a highly reliable means of doing so.

However, no study has ever used Beet Extract or Beet Root Powder.  There simply isn’t enough naturally occurring Nitrate in these ingredients to yield a clinically effective dose of Nitrate.

So, in the context of Vasogorge, Beet Root Powder is pretty useless…

Vasogorge Ingredient Takeaway

Vasogorge contains 4 active ingredients, 2 of which may be pretty effective for increasing pumps and possibly even endurance under certain circumstances, but it’s far from the most advanced pump-enhancement formula we’ve seen.

Arginine AKG doesn’t appear to be very effective and we know for a fact that the Beet Root Powder can’t possibly contain a clinical dose of Nitrate, so…yanno.

Is Vasogorge Safe?

Vasogorge is entirely safe, assuming you’re not on any blood thinning/cardiovascular medications.  You should always consult your doctor before taking any supplement, but given that this is a 100% stimulant-free formula, you don’t have much to worry about in terms of safety or side effects.

The Bottom Line

Vasogorge may indeed enhance the pump aspect of your workouts, but the formula leaves something to be desired.  Some of the ingredients are a little speculative and, ultimately, there are far superior pump formulas out there.
