Performix Iridium SSTi: An Evidence-Based Review

SSTi is a fat-burning supplement by Performix which belongs to the Iridium Series.  In terms of ingredient profile, nothing is known at this point…

Performix Iridium SSTi

Caffeine triggers the release of Catecholamines, a group of chemical messengers that directly trigger Lipolysis (breakdown of fat).  While Caffeine is not an effective weight-loss supplement on its own due to tolerance build-up, it can absolutely kickstart the fat-burning process which can then be amplified by other stimulants such as Synephrine and Yohimbine.

Performix Iridium SSTi contains 200mg of Caffeine per serving, enough to provide the average user with a noticeable boost of energy.

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb with a wide variety of health benefits, some more scientifically supported than others.  One of its most extensively researched benefits is stress reduction, with multiple human studies confirming that Ashwagandha is capable of reducing both subjective and objective measures of stress.

In the context of Performix Iridium SSTi, Ashwagandha can help keep Cortisol levels low which is inherently beneficial for anyone trying to lose weight, but it’s no miracle.

Synephrine is similar to Ephedrine in terms of its mechanism of action, just much less potent.  Still, it has been shown to boost Metabolic Rate and is remarkably safe (compared to other stimulants).  We discuss Synephrine more in-depth here.

Forskolin is the active compound found in Coleus Forskohlin responsible for the weight-loss benefits.  Multiple human studies have confirmed that Forskolin supplementation can increase cAMP levels ultimately resulting in weight-loss when used consistently for several weeks.

It may be more effective in men than women because of cAMP increasing Testosterone which in turn has its own inherent fat-burning properties.

Yohimbine, discussed in-depth here, is one of the most effective (legal) fat-burning ingredients generally found in fat-burners.  It functions as a alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonist, effectively allowed for more fat-loss during exercise than would otherwise normally occur.

Black Pepper

Black Pepper contains a compound called Piperine which has been shown to improve the bioavailability of other supplements when used in conjunction.  It has no known fat-burning implications, but may improve the absorption of the other ingredients in the Performix Iridium SSTi formula.

Tyrosine is a precursor to the neurotransmitters Dopamine and Noradrenaline, so it is commonly included in fat-burners to support optimal levels of these two fat-burning chemicals.

Theacrine is a relatively new entrant in the fat-burner/pre-workout supplement category, but one that is becoming more and more popular.  Research has yet to identify any inherent fat-burning properties of Theacrine, but it does appear to be effective for increasing energy.

We discuss Theacrine in much more detail here.

Citicoline and Alpha GPC

Citicoline and Alpha GPC are both bioavailable forms of Choline which may support Acetylcholine production in the brain.  Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter which is involved in general cognitive function as well as the mind muscle connection.

Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa Monnieri is yet another adaptogenic herb with a wide array of potential uses.  In the context of Performix Iridium SSTi, however, it may encourage Thyroid function.  Preliminary research indicates it can elevate Thyroid Hormone levels.

This may be useful for those with underactive Thyroids (a cause of weight gain for some), but for healthy individuals the weight-loss implications are unclear (probably pretty useless).

Huperzine A

Huperzine A functions as an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, meaning it blocks the enzyme responsible for the breakdown of Acetylcholine.  Recall from above that Acetylcholine is involved in various aspects of cognitive function.  Therefore, Huperzine is thought to convey Nootropic benefits, but human research is pretty scarce.

Medium Chain Triglycerides

Performix Iridium SSTi contains Medium Chain Triglycerides standardized for Conjugated Linoleic Acid.  We discuss the weight-loss implications of CLA in this article, but it’s probably not very effective in this instance (due to being severely under-dosed).

The Bottom Line

Performix Iridium SSTi may help facilitate some weight-loss, but many of the ingredients are either under-dosed or ineffective.  That, combined with that fact that it retails for about 5 times as much as most other fat-burners, makes us pass on it.

There are many more effective (and cost-effective) options out there.  Check out our Top 10 Fat-Burners List for some suggestions! exists to educate the supplement community and seperate the science from the hype.
