Nutrex Lipo 6 Black Intense: An Evidence-Based Review

Lipo 6 Black Intense is the latest installment of the Ultra Fit supplement line by Nutrex Research.  It’s a fat-burning supplement which is almost entirely stimulant driven–the only non-stimulant ingredient being Tyrosine…

Nutrex Research Lipo 6 Black Intense

Nutrex claims that Lipo 6 Black, like the other Lipo 6 formulas, will:

  • Provide Long-Lasting Energy
  • Burn Fat
  • Suppress Appetite

Needless to say, these are the same claims that are generally attached to fat-burning/weight-loss supplement.  So, does Lipo 6 Black Intense have what it takes?  Let’s take a look at the ingredients and find out…

Lipo 6 Black Intense Ingredients

As previously stated, Lipo 6 Black Intense contains almost all stimulants.  Out of the 7 active ingredients, 6 are stimulants and 1 (N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine) is a support ingredient that is usually included in enery/focus supplements to enhance the effects of stimulats such as Caffeine.

N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NALT)

N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is said to be a more bioavailable form of the amino acid, Tyrosine, a precursor to Dopamine and Noradrenaline.  These two neurotransmitters are closely involved with focus, mood, and perceived (mental) energy.  Research indicates that Tyrosine does not simply convert into Dopamine and Noradrenaline, but instead can be used as a substrate to produce more when levels get low.

This is why it is commonly used in focus/energy supplements which contain stimulants such as Caffeine that release neurotransmitters like Dopamine and Noradrenaline.  In these situations, Tyrosine may be useful for ensuring optimal levels of these neurotransmitters which be improve focus/energy when focus/energy would normally be lacking.

Is it a miracle ingredient?  No, but it makes sense to include Tyrosine in the Lipo 6 Black Intense formula because of all the other stimulants.

Caffeine Citrate/Anhydrous

Lipo 6 Black Intense contains two types of Caffeine: Caffeine Citrate and Caffeine Anhydrous.  There is some speculation that Caffeine Citrate is more slowly absorbed which would theoretically lead to a more sustained energy/focus, but this is basically pure speculation at this point.  No study has compared the effects of these two form of Caffeine.

Caffeine (in whatever form) triggers the release of Catecholamines, a group of chemicals which includes Dopamine and Noradrenaline.  These are the chemicals responsible for the increased alertness and focus that Caffeine consumption generally induces.

Beyond focus and alertness, Catecholamines (especially Noradrenaline) are also potent fat-burning hormones which directly stimulate lipolysis.  This is why Caffeine is used in just about every stimulant-based fat-buner.  It definitely helps kickstart the fat-burning process, but prolonged use can lead to tolerance so it isn’t too effective as a practical fat-loss solution on it’s own.

Theacrine is a molecule that is somewhat similar to Caffeine in terms of it’s stimulant properties but appears to be more selective for Dopamine, rather than Noradrenaline.  Since Noradrenaline is more lipolytic than Dopamine, this doens’t necessarily make Theacrine a great fat-burning ingredient, but it can boost mental alertness and focus, providing what some users refer to as a “sustained energy boost”.

Research on Theacrine is still in its infancy, but it has started to appear in many fat-burners and pre-workouts (like Lipo 6 Black Intense).

Advantra Z (Synephrine)

Advantra Z is a standardized form of Bitter Orange Extract which contains, among other things, Synephrine.  Synephrine is sometimes compared to Ephedrine due to some chemical similarities and the fact that they share the same basic mechanism of action, but unlike Ephedrine, Synephrine is quite safe.

Synephrine is a beta-receptor agonist, meaning it activates the receptors in fat cells that directly stimulate lipolysis (fat-breakdown).  It has been shown to increase Metabolic Rate in human subjects and is considered entirely safe at doses of up to 50mg.  On it’s own, Synephrine is mild but the fat-loss benefits may be amplified when it’s combined with other stimulants.

Lipo 6 Black Intense contains an undisclosed amount of Synephrine in each serving.

Yohimbine is one of the most effective fat-burning stimulants (that won’t be taken away by the FDA due to the fact that it is naturally occuring in a wide variety of plant species).  It functions as an alpha-receptor antagonist–essentially the inverse of Synephrine–meaning it blocks the receptors that put a stock to lipolysis.  This results in the body burning more fat than it otherwise normally would during exercise.

Research indicates that Yohimbine can lead to noticeable improvements in body composition (less fat) in as little as two weeks (depending on the dose).  Unfortunately, Nutrex does not list the amount of Yohimbine in Lipo 6 Black Intense so it’s really tough to say how effective it is in this case.

Rauwolscine is essentially Yohimbine’s more potent chemical cousin.  They are stereoisomers of each other meaning their chemical structures are almost identical but differ slightly.  We discuss the fat-burning implications of Rauwolscine in this article but to make a long story short, it’s one of the most effective legal fat-burning compounds you’ll find.

Unfortunately, tolerance tends to vary from person to person so dosing is kind of a big deal and Nutrex doesn’t seem to want us to know how much Rauwolscine is present in Lipo 6 Black Intense.

Lipo 6 Black Intense Ingredient Takeaway

Lipo 6 Black Intense absolutely has what it takes to induce some notable fat-loss, mostly due to the combination of Caffeine, Synephrine, and Yohimbine/Rauwolscine. These ingredients alone would suffice, but the addtion of Tyrosine and Theacrine may add to the energy/focus aspect of the formula.

Unfortunately, Nutrex doesn’t list the precise doses of any of the individual ingredients so determining your ideal dosage requires some trial and error.  Still, even with a proprietary blend obscuring the doses of each ingredient, it’s pretty easy to tell that Lipo 6 Black Intense has what it takes to encourage some noticeable fat-loss in a relatively short period of time.

Is Lipo 6 Black Intense Safe?

Lipo 6 Black Intense doesn’t contain any ingredients that are flat out “dangerous” but because Nutrex is using a proprietary blend style of labeling, we have no idea how much of each ingredient is present in each serving.  For this reason, users should be very careful with regards to dosing.  Start at one serving, then go up if you feel the need to.  Don’t take multiple servings at once.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a pretty powerful stimulant-powered fat-burner, Lipo 6 Black Intense may be right up your alley.  Users can expect energy, focus, some mild/moderate appetite suprpession, and some pretty noticeable fat-loss.  We just wish Nutrex would stop using proprietary blends.  Come on guys!
