Amino Beyond is an amino acid supplement by Momentum Nutrition, the brand founded by SuppWithThat creator Matt Theis, which also makes Catalyst and Formula 56. Amino Beyond is intended to enhance recovery, improve muscular endurance, and encourage optimal muscle growth. Like all Momentum Nutrition supplements, it contains nothing but clinical doses of research-validated ingreidents…
Momentum Nutrition claims that Amino Beyond will
- Enhance Muscular Edurance
- Promote Better Pumps And Blood-Flow
- Promote Muscle Growth/Reduce Muscle Breakdown
- Enhance Recovery From Exercise
Most BCAA supplements are just that: BCAA supplements. Clearly, based on these claims, Amino Beyond is designed to be much more. But let’s take a look at the ingredients and their respective doses to see if Momentum Nutrition can back up these claims…
Amino Beyond Ingredients
Amino Beyond contains perhaps the most concise yet thorough blend of ingredients we’ve seen in any BCAA/Amino supplement so far, all of which are clinically dosed. So, what makes this formula so great? Let’s check it out…
Citrulline is an amino acid which serves as a precursor to Arginine, but can increase Nitric Oxide levels much more effectively than Arginine. It has been shown to enhance muscular endurance and reduce soreness from training and is considered reliable at doses of atleast 6g (as Citrulline Malate).
Amino Beyond contains Citrulline Malate, the same form used in the majority of the studies involving Citrulline and exercise. The dose (6g per serving) is also in-line with what has been used clinically for performance enhancement.
Although Momentum is certainly not the first brand to use Citrulline in a BCAA-based formula, it is definitely the first we’ve seen use a clinical dose. Most BCAA supplements that also contain Citrulline tend to be severely under-dosed which severely limits any potential synergy.
Research has shown that Citrulline is capable of restoring muscle protein synthesis rates when protein is scarce, similar to Leucine, although not through the same mechanism. Such a relationship suggests the two may be synergistic but studies have yet to investigate this.
Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine
Leucine is the most potent of all amino acids with regards to stimulating muscle protein synthesis and is considered by some to be the only BCAA with any real value. While we disagree with that notion, it is true that Leucine is the most important.
The most common ratio when it comes to BCAA supplements is 2:1:1 favoring Leucine. Momentum Nutrition, on the other hand, has elected to use a 4:1:1 ratio in Amino Beyond.
Considering the fact that Leucine is the most important (the only BCAA that directly stimulates muscle protein synthesis), we’d say this ratio makes more sense than 2:1:1 since it allows for 6g of total BCAAs per serving to yield a clinical dose of Leucine (4g), ensuring optimal muscle protein synthesis.
Lately it seems the trend with BCAAs has been 5g per serving providing only 2.5g of Leucine per serving, not exactly in the “clinical range”. We like Momentum Nutrition’s Leucine-centric approach with this one.
L-Carnitine L-Tartrate is one of the more bioavailable forms of Carnitine and has been the primary form used in studies assessing the role of Carnitine in exercise recovery.
Indeed, L-Carnitine L-Tartrate has been shown to reduce exercise-induced oxidative muscle damage and favorably influence various other indications of exercise recovery, possibly through enhanced oxygenation, in multiple studies.
Amino Beyond contains 2g of L-Carnitine L-Tartrate per serving, a true clinical dose, although doses as low as 1g may be effective as well.
Taurine is an amino acid which, unlike most other amino acids, has antioxidant properties. Like Carnitine, Taurine has been shown to reduce exercise-induced oxidative damage in muscle tissue. This has been noted in multiple studies and is thought to be the underlying mechanism by which Taurine may enhance performance.
While the performance enhancement benefits of Taurine aren’t particularly reliable, the recovery benefits are quite the opposite. If anything, we’d like to see Taurine in less pre-workouts and in more recovery supplements like Amino Beyond.
This is probably the strangest ingredient in Amino Beyond. Normally, we see Zinc in test-boosters and multi-vitamins, although it actually makes a lot of sense to include in a recovery formula.
Zinc has been shown to preserve Testosterone levels in athletes undergoing rigorous training programs (where Testosterone would normally decline) and has also been shown to support immune function. Although we wouldn’t consider Zinc a “key ingredient” in the Amino Beyond formula, it makes sense.
15mg per serving is roughly 100% of the RDI for people who don’t exercise. Exercise can drastically increase the body’s Zinc needs, so ultimately 15mg is a fine dose, helping to ensure adequate Zinc levels but without going overboard.
Amino Beyond Ingredient Takeaway
Amino Beyond is clearly more than just an ordinary BCAA supplement. Thanks to effective (clinical) doses of Citrulline Malate, LCLT, and Taurine, it’s actually more a non-stimulant, pre-workout/intra-workout/post-workout recovery powerhouse all combined. It’s an excellent option for those individuals who utilize Fasted Training for the fat-loss benefits, as it won’t break your fast but will provide additional endurace and stamina (which would normally be lacking when you train fasted).
Is Amino beyond Safe?
Amino Beyond is super safe. There’s nothing even remotely dangerous about this formula and it contains no stimulants whatsoever. If it matters to you, there are no artificial dyes either.

The Bottom Line
Amino Beyond is probably the single most well put together BCAA/Amino supplement we’ve seen. The formula is simple but provides highly effective clinical doses of all key ingredients, meaning Amino Beyond has what it takes to boost endurance, enhance recovery, and optimize muscle growth.
