MHP BCAA-XL: An Evidence-Based Review

BCAA-XL Is a Branched Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) supplement by MHP, the brand behind RecklessRecovery PM, and Vasculore.  Although it seemingly provides a pretty basic formula, MHP does imply that it is superior to other BCAA Supplements on the market…

MHP claims essentially the same basic benefits as most BCAA supplement producers, but makes the distinction that it contains “19% more Leucine than the leading brand“.  Which “leading brand” they’re referring to…Certainly not any of the brands on our Best BCAA/Amino Supplement list.

  • Enhance Recovery
  • Support Muscle Growth
  • Support Strength/Endurance

There are no outlandish, unsubstantiated claims being made here.  MHP is just sticking the basics…and we like it!

BCAA-XL Ingredients

The only thing we know about BCAA-XL so far is that it will feature 5g of total BCAAs per serving, with 4.1g of that being made up of Leucine.  This may seem a bit odd if you’re used to seeing BCAAs in a 2:1:1 ratio, but it should actaully be viewed as a step in the right direction.

You see, most brands blindly follow the 5g BCAA 2:1:1 ratio trend without realizing that, by doing so, they’re under-dosing the only BCAA that really matters: Leucine!

Leucine is the most potent of all amino acids when it comes to stimulating protein synthesis.  This doesn’t mean it’s all you need to build muscle, but without Leucine, you won’t build any muscle.

It activates an enzyme called mTOR which directly stimulates muscle protein synthesis, thereby making it the most important amino acid for muscle growth, period.

Unlike most companies that produce BCAAs, MHP actually seems to understand this.  That’s why BCAA-XL contains a 10:1:1 ratio of BCAAs, meaning 4.1g of Leucine per serving–a true clinical dose.
