Phosphatidic Acid is a phospholipid component of cell-membranes which has been shown, in vitro, to stimulate mTOR, a signaling molecule which initiates muscle protein synthesis.
Fuel:One references one particular study from the “Nutrition & Metabolism” which found that Phosphatidic Acid enhanced mTOR signaling (measured in vitro) and ultimately increased muscle hypertrophy and strength in resistance trained males over an 8 week period.

An earlier (2012) pilot study, published in the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition”, found that Phosphatidic Acid supplementation (750mg daily) increased squat strength and Lean Body Mass (LBM) slightly more than the placebo group in response to 8 weeks of resistance training.
Although the results of this pilot study were not as encouraging as the most recent (2014) study, they both indicate that Phosphatic Acid can enhance strength and muscle growth, at least to some degree. Furthermore, the 2014 study, the study emphasized by Fuel:One, had a better design which may account for the differences.
Tart Cherry is becoming popular as recovery-aid, and we assume that’s why Fuel:One added it to the Phospha Build formula.
A 2010 study, published in the “Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports”, found that Tart Cherry juice reduced various markers of muscular damage in human subjects following exercise.
Tart Cherry may enhance the recovery aspect of the formula, though its clearly not the main attraction in Phospha Build.
IS PHOSPHA BUILD WOTRH THE PREIMUM?
Phospha Build comes with a significantly higher price tag than other Phosphatidic Acid supplements we’ve seen. This is because, as Fuel:One explains on their website, Phospha Build contains a standardized form of Phosphatidic Acid which has been tested for purity. This doesn’t mean that every other Phosphatidic Acid supplement does not meet label claims, but it may appeal to those who want to be absolutely sure. So, is the massive premium worth peace of mind? That’s for the customer to decide.
IS PHOSPHA BUILD SAFE?
Given that Phospha Build contains the same exact dose of Phosphatidic Acid used in both of the above-mentioned studies, and given that neither of those studies reported any sort of side effects or potential health detriments, Phospha Build appears perfectly safe. Phosphatidic Acid, as mentioned above, is a component of Soy so it is already present in many Soy-based products. Of course, individuals with Soy allergies should probably steer clear.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Phospha Build is essentially just Phosphatic Acid, which may be moderately effective for increasing strength and muscle hypertrophy when combined with a proper training program. We would like to stress however that, given the differences between the studies discussed above, individual results may vary.
