Cellucor CN3

Creatine Nitrate

Creatine Nitrate is simply Creatine bound to Nitric Acid (Nitrate), a chemical precursor to Nitric Oxide. The Nitrate-Nitrite-Nitric Oxide pathway is the most direct and reliable pathway for increasing Nitric Oxide, so Nitrates have become a popular ingredient in pre-workout supplements.

However, Creating Nitrate has not actually been studied directly, let alone in comparison with other forms of Creatine such as Creatine Monohydrate. For this reason, the true magnitude of benefit remains unclear. It is quite possible that Creatine Nitrate can enhance performance more the same amount of Creatine alone, since Nitrate is also a reliable performance enhancing substance, but without actual studies to go by we hesitate to support that claim outright.

Still, Creatine Nitrate should be atleast as effective as Creatine Monohydrate, and with 3g per serving, Cellucor’s CN3 has what it takes to enhance strength and endurance as well as increase muscle volume and speed up recovery.

When To Take CN3

Timing of ingestion isn’t particularly important with Creatine. Some research suggests that post-workout may be slightly ideal but in the scheme of things it probably doesn’t make much of a difference. Given that Nitrate is generally used pre-workout, it would also make sense to take Cellucor CN3 prior to working out…but that would be up to you.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a novel form of Creatine (not that we generally recommend novel forms), than Cellucor’s CN3 may be worth a shot. Research still hasn’t caught up to Creatine Nitrate yet, but based on what we know about Creatine and Nitrate individually, it’s certainly one of the more scientifically-sound novel forms of Creatine… exists to educate the supplement community and seperate the science from the hype.
