Black Skull 3 Whey: An Evidence-Based Review

3 Whey is a protein supplement by Black Skull—we’re not sure if they realize that Blackstone Labs already has a protein supplement called 3 Whey—which is essentially a combination of 3 different forms of Whey…

Black Skull 3 Whey Ingredients

Black Skull 3 Whey contains three different types of Whey Protein:

  1. Whey Isolate
  2. Whey Hydrolysate (Hydrolyzed Whey)
  3. Whey Concentrate

Yielding a total of 29g of Protein per serving and coming in very light in terms of Total Fat (2g) and Carbs (4g).  Since Whey is a rapidly absorbed Protein (as opposed to Casein which is slowly absorbed), this makes 3 Whey ideal for early morning or post-workout use when a quick, profound amino acid spike is needed to reignite muscle protein synthesis and fuel muscle growth.

However, other than a hilarious (though redundant) name, there doesn’t really appear to be an advantage to taking 3 different types of Whey, as opposed to just Whey Isolate or Whey Hydrolysate.

Why Use A Blend?

Generally speaking, brands just use a blend because it’s cheaper.  Whey Hydrolysate is typically the most expensive, followed by Whey Isolate, followed by Concetrate.  This simply has to do with the amount of processing required to yield each type.

Of course, we have no idea exactly how much of each type Black Skull is using in 3 Whey, so we’ll save the speculation for now and wait for the details.
