We’ve seen supplements which claim to block estrogen come and go, but one that seems to be sticking around is androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione (also known as Arimistane).
In fact, androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is supposed to be so powerful that many people rely on it as a PCT supplement when coming off steroids or SARMs.
But is it really worth the hype?
In this article, we’ll discuss everything you need to know about androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione, including:
- What it is
- How it works
- The Research (or lack thereof)
- Side Effects
And pretty much everything else you might be wondering about this unique compound that many are calling “the most powerful AI that’s still legal”.
So, without further ado…
What Is androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione?
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is a naturally occurring metabolite of 7-Keto DHEA. It’s one of several metabolites, but for whatever reason, it has garnered the most attention in the supplement community.
Here’s what it looks like:
Although it is technically non-hormonal, it can potentially interact with hormone metabolism and preliminary evidence suggests it plays a role in managing Cortisol (stress hormone) as well.
You can find it in supplements claiming to boost Testosterone and/or block Estrogen, usually in doses of 25-75mg.
How Does androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione Work?
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is an Aromatase Inhibitor (AI).
Aromatase is an enzyme that converts the sex hormone Testosterone to the sex hormone Estrogen. Inhibiting it is one of the primary ways to suppress Estrogen.
The body has checks and balances to normalize this process, but under certain circumstances Aromatase can become too active. During or after a steroid cycle would be a fine example.
When you artificially increase your Testosterone levels, your body tries to compensate by producing more Estrogen as well.
Too much Estrogen can have some pretty negative effects:
- water weight accumulation
- decreased sex drive
- mood swings
- acceleration of cancer
- weight gain
Of course there are many more negative impacts of having high Estrogen levels brought on by too much Aromatase activity, but you get the idea.
You want to keep Aromatase within the normal, healthy range.
If it gets too active, you’ve got a problem and that’s often the case when you’re running a cycle of something that boosts your testosterone.
That’s where Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs) come in…
There are a few ways to block or limit Estrogen activity, but Aromatase Inhibition is the most direct.
This has made it a preferred method for dealing with health conditions like breast cancer where limiting Estrogenic activity is necessary.
AI’s are right up there with SERMs like Nolvadex as a first-line treatment for suppressing Estrogen.
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione actually binds to the Aromatase enzyme, rendering it inactive and unable to fulfill it’s normal role: converting Testosterone to Estrogen.
By blocking Aromatase in the first place, less Estrogen is converted from Testosterone. This both decreases Estrogenic activity and slightly increases Testosterone (because less of it is converted into Estrogen).
The Research On androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione
Considering it’s potential as a legal OTC Aromatase Inhibitor, there is a shockingly sparse amount of scientific research on androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione.
It has demonstrated aromatase inhibition in vitro, but has literally never been studied in humans.
One study actually tested several derivatives of androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione against known prescription Aromatase Inhibitors and found that some were equally as effective.
Surely, such encouraging results would warrant further research, but the scientific community has been slow on this one.
So, there really isn’t any actual (human) research showing that androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is an effective AI.
That said, what little research has been conducted is pretty encouraging.
In fact, based on the preliminary research, it appears quite strong.
Anecdotal evidence tends to agree (but you can go ask around on forums for that). Let’s stick to the science…
What Kind Of Results Can You Expect From androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione?
Here’s the thing…
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is not the “powerful muscle-building agent” that it’s commonly made out to be.
The limited research that exists (and we’re talking VERY limited) indicates it might be a moderately powerful Aromatase Inhibitor (AI).
Aromatase Inhibitors may reduce Estrogen and subtly increase Testosterone, but that doesn’t mean they boost Testosterone to the point that muscle growth is accelerated.
Decreasing the conversion of Testosterone to Estrogen may indirectly increase Testeosterone levels, but a small increase in Test isn’t enough to elicit any sort of considerable muscle growth.
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione may slightly increase Testosterone levels but probably won’t help you build much muscle by itself.
You see, steroid use can result in varying degrees of Testosterone suppression (because the body doesn’t think it needs to keep producing it), during which time Estrogen levels can rise to unhealthy levels. This typically results in:
- Joint Pain
- Gyno (Worst Case)
- Loss Of Muscle
Some of which kind of defeat the purpose of the cycle in the first place. So, it’s not a bad idea to include Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione in your PCT.
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione may help suppress Estrogen which creates an optimal environment for your natural Testosterone levels to rebound.
Of course, the severity of the cycle and how much androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione you take are going to be the deciding factors there.
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is no miracle Estrogen-blocker. It just helps.
If you’re running a serious cycle (like actual steroids), you’d be smart to stack something else like a SERM on top.
Does androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione Have Any Side Effects?
Now, I hate to use this as justification for safety but…
Millions of doses of androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione have been taken and so far nothing bad has happened.
No OD’s. No liver failure. No reason to believe that it’s dangerous…
That said, it’s important to keep in mind that androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione hasn’t been studied much at all in isolation–especially with regards to safety–so we really have no idea if there are any long-term side effects to be concerned about.
Based on what we do know, however, it seems pretty safe…at least in the short term.
Most metabolites of DHEA have very little impact on Androgen receptors, limiting the likelihood of Androgen-related side effects.
Androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione would likely be the same in that respect.
There’s no evidence that it causes any harm, but you should always be careful when experimenting with new compounds.
Is androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione Legal?
Oddly enough, androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is perefectly legal to use in dietary supplements.
Usually things that actually work get banned pretty quickly by the FDA, but it would appear that androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is here to stay..at least for now.
It’s worth mentioning, however, that the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) considers androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione to be an effective enough anabolic compound to be banned.
Otherwise, who cares of it’s banned as long as it’s legal, right?
If you’re just a regular guy or girl hitting the gym, you don’t need to be concerned with policies of arbitrary organizations like WADA.
WADA’s rules have nothing to do with the law and by taking androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione you are in no way violating the law. It’s certainly legal to buy, sell, possess, consume, etc…
As long as you’re not subject to WADA testing standards, you have nothing to worry about.
Where To Buy androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione
You can find androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione in tons of supplements these days, mostly geared toward post cycle therapy or muscle building in general.
Some of the most well-known are:
- VMI Sports Arimistane (Pure Arimistane)
- Olympus Labs Elim1nate
- RedCon 1 Shield
- PhytoHealth Phenomenol
- VMI Sports A-XR PCT
- Sparta Nutrition Trojan PCT
But there are MANY more products which contain androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione as a key ingredient.
It definitely looks like it’ll be sticking around for a while, but for the time being, you can find it pretty much anywhere.
And by ‘anywhere’, I mean Amazon (duh).
If you want to give androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione a shot, it’s just $20 and 1 click away.
Of course, if you’re really taking your post cycle therapy seriously, androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione is just a part of it.
For most compounds, simply using an AI (even one as strong as androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione) for PCT purposes is dangerous business.
You need something that blocks Estrogen through another route as well (like Nolvadex).
The Bottom Line On androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione
The jury is still out on androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione, but the preliminary research combined with a ton of anecdotal evidence indicates it’s a moderately effective Aromatase Inhibitor.
It will definitely suppress Estrogen and may indirectly boost Testosterone as well, just not to the point where muscle growth is accelerated.
This makes it useful for PCT purposes, but as a stand-alone muscle builder, not so much.
A lot of PCT products are being solid with androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione as the primary active ingredient with the claim that “it’s all you need”, and based on the evidence, that’s not exactly true.
In fact, if you’re running a harsh compound, you really should seek out a SERM just to be sure. An AI helps, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle.
There’s a lot more to Post Cycle Therapy than simply blocking Aromatase, but that doesn’t mean androsta 3 5 diene 7 17 dione doesn’t have its place.
