Beta-Alanine

Beta-Alanine is a precursor to the dipeptide Carnosine.  Carnosine functions as a Lactic Acid buffer in working muscle, effectively delaying muscular fatigue.  Higher muscular Carnosine concentrations are associated with improved muscular endurance and supplementation with Beta-Alanine is a highly reliable/effective means of increasing Carnosine in muscle tissue.

Most studies have used doses of Beta-Alanine ranging from 3-6g daily, but doses as low as 1.6g daily are still effective in the long run.  In some people, Beta-Alanine supplementation may cause a sensation known as Paresthesia.  Taking Beta-Alanine in small doses several times throughout the day is the best way to avoid Paresthesia.

PumpPills contains 800mg of Beta-Alanine per serving, meaning multiple servings may be required to yield an effective dose.

L-Citrulline

Citrulline is a precursor to the amino acid Arginine, but is actually a much more effective supplement than Arginine for raising plasma Arginine levels.  Citrulline is capable of enhancing muscular endurance, but through different mechanisms than Beta-Alanine.

L-Citrulline is effective at doses of 3-6g but PumpPills provides just 800mg per serving.  This means multiple servings will likely be needed to meaningfully improve muscular endurance.

L-Malic Acid

Malic Acid is usually found alongside Citrulline in the form of Citrulline Malate, but that’s not the case with PumpPills.  DoVitamins has elected to include it seperately in the form of L-Malic Acid, but whether it still provides its share of the benefits associated with Citrulline Malate remains unclear.

PumpPills contains 800mg of L-Malic Acid.

Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)

The Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) include Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine.  Leucine is the most potent amino acid with regards to stimulating muscle protein synthesis and may be especially useful for encouraging muscle growth or preserving muscle in instances of low protein intake.

The others, Isoleucine and Valine, have their individual functions that make supplementing with them potentially worthwhile, but Leucine is no doubt the more important of the three.

That said, BCAAs in general do have benefits pertaining to exercise recovery, which can’t be attributed to Leucine alone.

Is PumpPills Safe?

The PumpPills formula contains no stimulants or dangerous ingredients.  It is entirely safe.

The Bottom Line

PumpPills contains several effective performance/pump enhancing ingredients, but is all-around under-dosed.  Multiple servings would be needed to acheive clinical doses of key ingredients, so it doesn’t exactly provide the best bang for your buck.
