Best Fat Burners For Men And Women (2018)

FatBurner2

Achieving a lean, shredded physique is the primary objective of many who enter the gym, but few are ever successful.

In reality, fat loss is most easily achieved by those who pay attention, not only to their workouts, but also to their diet and general lifestyle as well.

Even the very best fat burner won’t do you any good if you don’t take eat responsibly and exercise regularly.

But for those individuals who maintain a relatively clean diet, train regularly, and just need an extra push to target stubborn fat, the right fat-burner can actually make a pretty sizable difference.

Unfortunately, every company claims they have ‘the best fat burner’ and most of them are lying.

Most fat burners are:

  • Under-dosed
  • Over-priced
  • Completely Ineffective

This is why fat-burning supplements are hardly taken seriously in the mainstream medical community, despite numerous studies showing several molecules to be highly beneficial for burning fat–not to mention, safe.

It’s not that fat-burners don’t work, it’s just that MOST fat-burners don’t work.

These ineffective, often over-hyped products give the fat-burners that actually do work a bad name, but the truth is there are some out there which actually work.

If you’ve tried every fat-burner on this list and still haven’t found what you’re looking for, you’re probably just better off just creating your own.  Check out these articles for suggestions on how to do that:

  1. How To Create The Ultimate Fat-Burner
  2. Best Single-Ingredient Fat-Burning Supplements

But if you, like most people, would rather just buy an all-in-one product that gets the job done as efficiently as possible, any and all of the fat-burners on this list are worth considering.

OUR CRITERIA FOR THE BEST FAT BURNER

When it comes to evaluating any supplement–whether it be a fat-burner, pre-workout, or protein supplement–There are only a few things that actually matter.

As it turns out, shiny packaging isn’t one them!

Too many people think a fat-burning supplement is some kind of magical formula that a crazy scientist made in a lab, but in reality they’re usually formulated by ordinary people who research the ingredients online and then have a manufacturer whip it up.

So when it comes to what constitutes the best fat-burner, it’s actually pretty simple…

PROVEN (RESEARCH-BACKED) INGREDIENTS

The best fat burner is one which contains ingredients that have actually been PROVEN to burn fat.

Out of the hundreds of ingredients you’ll find in fat burning supplements, only a handful have actually been studies extensively enough to conclude that can help you burn fat.

Unfortunately, the use of ineffective ingredients remains rampant due to the unwillingness of supplement companies to stay current with the research and admit they were wrong–not to mention people like Dr. Oz who are quick to endorse a product despite a lack of scientific credibility and then deny accountability when it turns out the product doesn’t work.

It’s time we ditched ingredients like Rasperry Ketone and Garcinia Cambogia, which science has revealed to be ineffective, and trade them for ingredients like Synephrine and Forskolin, which have actually been PROVEN to work.

Of course, Raspberry Ketone is just one example of an over-hyped, ineffective weight-loss ingredient.

Realistically, there are MANY fat-burner that flat out don’t work.

In creating this list of the absolute best fat burners, we immediately disregarded fat burners containing these types of ingredients.

CLINICAL DOSES OF THOSE INGREDIENTS

Beyond simply containing the right ingredients, the best fat burner needs to contain clinically effective doses of those ingredients.

Many companies try to get away with listing effective ingredients on the label, but under-dose them to make more money.  They know that the average supplement consumer doesn’t even know what the term clinically dosed means.

Dosing is everything when it comes to fat burners.  It’s more important than the ingredients themselves if you think about it.

For example, at 50mg/day, Synephrine is an effective fat-burner, but at 5mg it does nothing.

The more extensively a supplement has been studied, the more we know about its optimal dose.

Often times we refer to this dose as the “clinical dose” but more often it’s a “clinical range”.  The only way to know for sure if a particular ingredient is as effective as it was in studies is if the dose falls within that range.

100% TRANSPARENCY

The best fat burner is one which features a transparent supplement facts panel, not a proprietary blend.

Proprietary blends are simply a way of misleading customers into thinking they’re getting a fat burner that works, when in fact they’re getting an under-dosed piece of trash.

In the early days of the supplement industry, supplement companies used to group all the ingredients together into one “proprietary blend” so that they didn’t have to list the doses of each ingredient.

The reason they said they did it is was so that competitors wouldn’t know the exact formula and copy them…To be absolutely clear, that’s a load of BS!

The reason it’s not a valid excuse is simply because the studies in which any particular ingredient was proven effective are publicly accessible, meaning which ingredients and at which doses they work the best is common knowledge.

There’s nothing proprietary about any company’s proprietary blend.  Don’t fall for it!

The only reason to use a proprietary blend is if you have something to hide and your customers are too stupid to ask questions.

Any reputable brand has adopted a transparent labeling approach at this point, but there are still plenty that hide behind proprietary blends.

As a consumer you should NEVER buy any product with a proprietary blend.  If enough people do that, they’ll cease to exist.

Needless to say, we disregarded any fat burner that uses a proprietary blend to conceal the individual doses of ingredients.

What Ingredients Power The Very Best Fat Burners?

If you take a look at several of the best of the best fat burners, you’ll find that they share a few ingredients in common.

This is simply because there are some ingredients which have been proven to work in scientific studies.

Of course, there are also hundreds of different ingredients that HAVE NOT been proven to burn fat.  The tricky part about choosing the best burner is figuring out which ingredients work and which ones don’t

Unfortunately, most fat burners contain ineffective, over-hyped ingredients that won’t actually help you burn fat.  Some examples of so-called fat burners that became popular, only to be proven ineffective in studies are:

  • Garcinia Cambogia
  • Raspberry Ketone
  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
  • Hoodia
  • L-Carnitine L-Tartrate

If you come across a fat burner which contains any of those ingredients, put it down and walk away.  None of those ingredients is going to do anything meaningful for you in terms of fat-loss.

Let’s talk about some ingredients that actually will help you burn fat…

Caffeine

Caffeine

Caffeine does more than just increase energy levels.  It also promotes fat-loss.

By triggering the release of Catecholamines–a group of fat-burning hormones which includes Dopamine, Noradrenaline, and Adrenaline–Caffeine directly stimulates lipolysis (fat breakdown).

Supplementation with Caffeine has been shown to enhance fat oxidation and increase the resting metabolic rate (RMR).

Research shows that Caffeine can augment fat burning from exercise and help people lose weight.

Different people respond better to different doses of Caffeine so there isn’t a precise clinical dose.  Instead, there’s more of a clinical range.

For most people, the sweet spot for Caffeine is somewhere between 200-400mg.

The best burners tend to fall within that range.

Synephrine

a molecular representation of synephrine

Synephrine is a mild stimulant which functions as a beta-receptor agonist.

Your body has two types of receptors in fat cells which regulate lipolysis (fat breakdown):

  1. beta-receptors – induce lipolysis
  2. alpha-receptors – put a stop to lipolysis

By agonizing (activating) beta-receptors, Synephrine directly stimulates lipolysis.

Studies show that Synephrine can increase resting metabolic rate (RMR), effectively causing you to burn more calories than usual, much of which is fat.

More calories burned translates to greater weight-loss (and fat-loss) over time.

The clinical dose for Synephrine is 50mg/day.

Most supplements contain far less though, so you need to be careful when selecting a fat burner with Synephrine.  If it doesn’t say how much Synephrine is in the formula, don’t buy it!

Forskolin

a molecular representation of forskolin

Forskolin is the active component of the herb Coleus Forskohlii.  It is one of the few non-stimulant ingredients which actually has a place in a truly effective fat burner.

It has been shown, in multiple studies, to help people lose weight.

Forskolin works by increase cAMP, a signaling protein which tells the body to breakdown fat.  It is actually so reliable at increasing cAMP that scientists use Forskolin for experiments where a high-cAMP environment is needed.

You need to be careful when selecting a Forskolin supplement because many of these products only list the total dose of Coleus Forskohlii, without disclosing how much actual Forskolin (the active molecule) is present.

The clinical dose for Forskolin is 50mg/day.

That means if a Coleus Forskohlii extract is standardized to contain 10% Forskolin, you need 500mg/day to yield an effective dose of Forskolin.

Yohimbine

Yohimbine Molecule

Yohimbine is the active component of Yohimbe Bark.  It’s a stimulant with some pretty remarkable fat-burning properties.

Research shows that Yohimbine can reduce body fat mass with no negative impact on lean mass, in just a few weeks.

It works by antagonizing (blocking) alpha-receptors.

Recall from above that alpha receptors are the receptors in fat tissue which put a stop to lipolysis (fat breakdown).  By blocking these receptors, Yohimbine allows you to burn more fat during exercise than would normally be possible.

It doesn’t work unless you actually workout, but if you workout, it works quite well!

The clinical dose for Yohimbine is about 20mg/day.

Rauwolscine

Rauwolscine Molecule

One of the downsides to Yohimbine is that it tends to be quite harsh in terms of side effects.  Many people can’t tolerate high enough doses to get the fat-loss benefits.

Rauwolscine is a stereoisomer of Yohimbine, meaning they are almost identical in terms of both chemical structure and function.

The main difference is that Rauwolscine considerably more potent, requiring only 1-3mg to exert the same fat-burning effects.

For this reason, it makes sense to supplement with Rauwolscine if Yohimbine is a problem for you.

The Absolute Best Fat Burners

The list below features the absolute best fat burners, based on the objective criteria we discussed above.

If you do a google search for “best fat burners”, you’ll find a bunch of affiliate websites that are just being paid to funnel traffic to whichever fat burner pays the largest commissions.

This list contains none of that.

If you take the time to really understand the science behind burning fat, you begin to realize that most fat burners are complete garbage, especially the ones that are the most popular.

The truth is, it’s all about the ingredients and the doses of those ingredients.  That’s it!

So, if you’re sick of getting ripped off by the sales rep at GNC or mislead by some blogger who just wants to make a quick buck, check out this list of the REAL best fat burners.

MOMENTUM NUTRITION FORMULA 56

Momentum Nutrition Formula 56

FIND IT HERE

Formula 56 was created by Matt Theis, Founder of SuppWithThat.com and Momentum Nutrition.

After spending years researching, analyzing, and understanding the science behind supplements, he arrived at the unfortunate realization that most fat burners are under-dosed, ineffective, and marketed in a misleading manner.

So, he did the only thing that made any sense…

He made his own based on a few simple principle that other fat-burners typically lack…

  1. Scientifically Proven Ingredients
  2. Clinical Doses Of Those Ingredients
  3. 100% Transparency
  4. Honest Marketing
  5. Third Party Testing

Adhering to these these strict standards places Formula 56 on an entirely different level than other so-called “fat burners”.

It contains nothing but clinically effective doses of research-backed ingredients that have been PROVEN to:

  • Increase The Amount Of Fat You Burn
  • Curb Appetite
  • Increase Metabolic Rate
  • Improve Cognitive Function
  • Provide Steady Focus And Energy

It’s not particularly stimulant heavy, but does contain a solid (300mg) dose of Caffeine in each serving.

While most fat burners are just stimulant cocktails with no established safety profiles, Formula 56 makes use of powerful synergies between certain ingredients, both stimulant and non-stimulant, to target fat through multiple mechanisms.

Formula 56 is perfect for anyone who wants to burn fat at an accelerated rate but doesn’t like extreme levels of stimulation.

Just a smooth, sustained rush of energy, focus, and cognitive enhancement that won’t make you crash or  leave you feeling run-down.

When you compare Formula 56 to other fat-burners, ingredient for ingredient and dose for dose, it’s pretty clear that it really is the best fat burner.

You can find it here, or read on for other highly recommended fat-burners…

SHEER STRENGTH LABS SHEER THERMO

Sheer Thermo

FIND IT HERE

Sheer Thermo by Sheer Strength Labs is a concise combination of some well established fat-burning ingredients and general support ingredients.  It isn’t overly dependent on Caffeine, but it contains a moderate dose of Yohimbine, a highly effective fat-burning stimulant.

Beyond that, Sheer Thermo has what it takes to

  • Suppress Appetite
  • Enhance Energy/Focus
  • Improve Mood

All useful aspects if you’re looking to lose as much fat as possible as quickly as possible.  Not to mention, Sheer Thermo provides by far the best bang for your buck our of all the fat-burners on this list.

LEGION PHOENIX

Legion Phoenix

FIND IT HERE

Legion has quickly established itself as a brand that produces high quality, effective, transparent supplements that actually work, and Phoenix is no exception.  Phoenix contains clinically effective doses of research-backed ingredients which are guaranteed to help you lose weight and burn fat (when use correctly), but what makes it particularly interesting is that it contains no Caffeine.

Fat-burners are usually Caffeine-based–because Caffeine has been shown to increase fat-oxidation–but Legion left it out in order to make Phoenix stackable with pre-workout supplements.  Of course Legion would suggest stacking Phoenix with Pulse, it can really be stacked with just about any pre-workout.

OLYMPUS LABS BLOODSHR3D

Olympus Labs BloodShr3d

FIND IT HERE

BloodShr3d is actually one of our favorite releases by Olympus Labs.  It’s unique blend of clinically-proven and cutting edge stimulant-containing ingredients makes it worth considering by anyone with a preference for stimulant-driven weight-loss.  This stuff will shred you up nice!

Due to the use of a few speculative stimulant-containing herbal extracts, BloodShr3d definitely falls into “high-stim” territory so we’d recommend starting with a lower dose and working your way up, just to be safe.

You can learn more about BloodShr3d by reading our Olympus Labs BloodShr3d Review.

MTS NUTRITION DROP FACTOR

MTS Drop Factor

FIND IT HERE

Marc Lobliner may be kind of annoying, but he knows how to formulate a fat-burner…either that or someone on his team did their homework.  Drop Factor is nothing short of highly effective and although a little more Yohimbine would make it better, it still has what it takes to:

  • Accelerate Fat-Loss During Exercise
  • Increase Your Metabolic Rate
  • Suppress Your Appetite (to some degree)

I terms of stimulant level, it’s about average.  One serving/day is really all you need, preferably prior to your workout and NOT mixed with other stimulants.

MYOKEM PYROXAMINE

Myokem Pyroxamine

FIND IT HERE

Pyroxamine is almost entirely stimulant driven, though most of the stimulants come from herbal extracts of various kinds.  Although the formula would be better if it contained higher doses of Citicoline, Theanine, and Bacopa, it does contain one ingredient that sets it apart from the others on this list…

Paradoxine, also known as Grains Of Paradise Extract, has been shown to activate Brown Adipose Tissue (a type of fat that acts as a ‘furnace’ to burn White Fat) under certain conditions.

Beyond that, Pyroxamine contains a host of stimulants such as Higenamine, Rauwolscine, Caffeine, and Theacrine, so you’re sure to get a burst of energy/focus/and some increased fat oxidation during your workouts.

KOMODO NUTRACEUTICALS VISCERAL RESPONSE

Komodo Nutraceuticals Visceral Response

FIND IT HERE

Visceral Response is easily one of the most powerful fat-burners on this list, assuming you can tolerate however much Yohimbine is in it.  The reason we were forced to bump it down this far is because Komodo doesn’t disclose the precise dose of Yohimbine in the Yohimbe Bark Extract.

As some of our readers may be aware, the lack of transparency with Yohimbe supplements is one of the primary reasons they have been labeled “dangerous”, despite the fact that Yohimbine (the active component in the extract) is entirely safe for healthy people to use.

Other than that, the Visceral Response formula has everything it takes to:

  • Burn Fat Fast
  • Control Blood Sugar/Cravings
  • Provide Energy/Focus

So, if you’re willing to roll the dice with the Yohimbe Extract, go for it!  You can learn more by reading our Visceral Response Review.

PHYSIQUES OF GREATNESS CUTS FTS

POG Cuts FTS

FIND IT HERE

Cuts FTS is the fat-burner released by the YouTube sensation, Physiques Of Greatness.  It’s surprising that the formula is actually very well formulated because most products released by (YouTube) celebrities end up being garbage…

Physiques Of Greatness, however, did their homework on this one.  It contains clinical doses of non-stimulant, potentially synergistic ingredients such as Caffeine and Theanine, as well as well as a few powerful stimulants such as Yohimbine and Higenamine that will increase Lipolysis (fat-breakdown) and ultimately result in the ability to burn more fat than you otherwise normally would during exercise.

SINGULAR SPORT RAUWOLSCINE (ALPHA-YOHIMBINE)

Rauwolscine

FIND IT HERE

Singular Sport Rauwolscine contains just one ingredient, Rauwolscine, also known as Alpha-Yohimbine.  Rauwolscine is perhaps the single most effective fat-burning molecule (that’s legal) and is ideal for those who don’t tolerate Yohimbine due to it being more potent and requiring much less to exert similar effects.

Rauwolscine functions as an alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonist, meaning it blocks the receptors (alpha-adrenergic receptors) which hinder Lipolysis (fat-breakdown).  Put simply, Rauwolscine blocks the receptors that block fat-burning.  The result?  You’ll be able to burn far more fat during your workouts than would normally be possible.e

Singular Sport uses a non-extract, pure form of Rauwolscine HCL (99% Pure) making it much more reliable than your typical extract.  Singular Sport Rauwolsine is the only Rauwolscine that’s Third Party Tested, proving it meets label claims and is free of any dangerous additives.

CORE NUTRITIONALS CORE BURN

Core Nutritionals Core Burn

FIND IT HERE

We can usually count on Core Nutritionals to produce effective, research-validated supplements and Core Burn further supports that notion.  It contains several ingredients, both stimulant and non-stimulant, which have been shown to:

  • Trigger Lipolysis (Fat-Loss)
  • Enhance Cognitive Function
  • Increase Fat-Oxidation

While we disagree with the idea that Raspberry Ketone actually does anything, the Core Burn formula would be very effective without it, so it definitely deserves consideration by anyone looking for a safe, effective fat-burner.

PRIMAFORCE YOHIMBINE

PrimaForce Yohimbine

FIND IT HERE

It may seem strange that we included Yohimbine on this list, despite Rauwolscine being an almost identical (but more effective) fat-burner molecule.  Well, it is definitely true that Rauwolscine is pound for pound (mg for mg really) better for attacking stubborn fat, Yohimbine is also effective for those who can tolerate high enough doses.

To learn more about Yohimbine, check out any of the following articles:

If you can take between 10-20mg of Yohimbine before your workout without feeling light-headed, dizzy, or like you’re about to have a heart attack, then go for it.  It’s dirt cheap.  If you’re concerned about side effects from such high doses, consider Rauwoslcine instead.

How To Inerpret This List

Don’t pay so much attention to the numbers.  Try to think about what you ideally want in a fat-burner  and go with whichever option offers those benefits.

There are a ton of supplements out there, and while the quality and efficacy vary tremendously, our job is filter out the garbage and just leave you with the worthwhile options.

The truth is there is no “best fat-burner” but, all else constant, any supplement on this list will help you burn fat.  In the end, it comes down to a matter of personal preference, but if we’ve steered you in the right direction, we’ve done our job!

The Secret To Fat Loss Is…There Is No Secret

Every supplement company claims to have a magic pill that will help you lose weight faster, but what most of them fail to mention is that if you really want to lose fat quickly, you need to make some other adjustments, specifically with regards to

  1. Nutrition
  2. Exercise

There are supplements that can help tremendously, such as the supplements on this list, but you’ll never achieve the physique of your dreams without first tightening up your diet and exercise program.

That doesn’t mean you have to adhere to some horrible diet or exercise for hours at a time, it just means you need to optimize the way you eat and exercise for fat-loss.

If you want to burn fat fast, consider:

  • Focusing on heavy compound weight-lifting
  • Upping your protein intake to 1-1.4g/lb/day.
  • High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) for cardio

Supplements should only come into play once you’ve made the necessary changes to your diet and the way you exercise to allow for maximum fat-loss…
