CAFFEINE ANHYDROUS

Caffeine triggers the release of Catecholamines (i.e. Noradrenaline, Adrenaline, Dopamine) which, in addition to enhancing focus and alertness, are inherently pro-lipolytic. Unfortunately, habitual Caffeine consumption tends to lead to tolerance, making it less and less effective as time goes on. That being said, Caffeine may be synergistic with other stimulants and tends to increase perceived energy, leading to more intense workouts.

Ab Igniter Black contains a hefty 300mg dose of Caffeine, more than enough to make the average (non-habitual Caffeine user) noticeably more alert and focused, and may potentiate the effects of Higenamine and Yohimbine with regards to burning fat.

GUARANA

Guarana is a plant native to the Amazon, the fruit of which contains Caffeine as well as related chemical compounds such as Theobromine and Theophylline (both cardiac stimulants with less of a mental effect). Although Guarana is touted as being a sort of “slow-release” form of caffeine, a study published in the “Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology” found there was no difference in the absorption rates of Caffeine from Guarana as opposed to Caffeine Anhydrous (synthetic) in rats. Human studies have yet to be confirmed, but given these preliminary findings, there is certainly no reason to believe Guarana would absorb any differently in humans.

The fat-burning capabilities of Guarana are mostly due to the Caffeine present, so in the context of Ab Igniter Black (or any fat-burner), we’d simply consider Guarana another source of Caffeine. Ab Igniter Black contains 500mg of Guarana standardized to 22% Caffeine, adding an additional 110mg of Caffeine and bringing the total Caffeine level to 410 (quite a significant dose for most individuals).

DIHYDROCAPSIATE

Dihydrocapsiate is a member of the group of compounds known as Capsinoids, found in Chili Pepper along with Capsaicin. While Capsaicin tends to be quite pungent, Dihydrocapsiate (like all Capsinoids) is not, but possesses similar thermogenic properties.

A 2001 found subjects who consumed CH-19 Sweet (containing Capsinoids) had significantly higher core body temperatures and increased oxygen consumption (indicative of energy production) compared to the placebo group. A later (2010) study, published in “The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”, found that Dihydrocapsiate supplementation (3-9mg/day) caused a small but noticeable increase in the resting metabolic rate of healthy human subjects.

Ab Igniter Black contains 5mg of Dihydrocapsiate, which is in the middle of the range shown to increase resting metabolic rate. What remains unclear is whether there is any synergistic effect of Dihydrocapsiate with any of the other stimulants present in the Ab Igniter Black formula, but that is certainly a possibility.

NELUMBO NUCIFERA SEED EXTRACT

Nelumbo Nucifera contains Higenamine, which is a Beta(2)Adrenergic Agonist (same mechanism as Ephedra), meaning it stimulates the Beta(2) Adrenergic Receptors which induce lipolysis (fat burning). In addition to its fat-burning potential, Higenamine has also been demonstrated in vitro to increase acetylcholine levels, though these findings have not yet been replicated in humans. Overall, there is certainly preliminary support for Higenamine as a fat-burner and potential ergogenic aid, but because no human studies exist there is recommended effective dose. Since Higenamine acts as a Beta Receptor Agonist, it may synergistically enhance the fat-burning effects of Alpha Receptor Antagonists such as Yohimbine, the effect of which may be further potentiated by the substantial dose of Caffeine also present in the Ab Igniter Black formula.

YOHIMBINE HCL

Yohimbine HCl is an alpha(2) receptor antagonist, meaning it inhibits the receptor responsible for blocking lipolysis (breakdown of fat). By blocking the action of this receptor Yohimbine allows for more lipolysis than would otherwise be possible from exercise.

A 2006 study, published in “Research in Sports Medicine”, found that Yohimbine supplementation (20mg/day) induced relatively significant fat loss in athletes (soccer players). These results conflicted somewhat with those of an earlier (1991) study from the “International Journal of Obesity” in which Obese men did not benefit from long-term Yohimbine supplementation. However, the obvious difference between these two studies was that in the failed study the subjects did not exercise.

As previously stated, Yohimbine directly acts on alpha-2 receptor so for it to be truly effective as a weight-loss agent, it must be combined with something that activates the fat-burning process in the first place (i.e. stimulants or exercise). Ab Igniter Black contains 6mg of Yohimbine HCl which, despite being less than what was used in the above mentioned study, is a fairly significant dose when combined with other stimulants such as Caffeine and Higenamine.

ALPINIA GALANGA RHIZOME EXTRACT

Alpinia Galanga is a plant in the Ginger family which is sometimes referrered to as “Thai Ginger” because it is common in Thai cooking. However, the use of Alpinia Galanga as a supplement is extremely limited and there is actually no direct evidence that it can enhance mood or focus. In the context of the Ab Igniter Black formula it remains unclear how exactly Alpinia Galanga fits into the formula.

HUPERZINE A

Huperzine A is an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor which means it blocks the enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine, resulting in increased levels. Acetylcholine controls skeletal muscle and is largely responsible for the ‘mind-muscle connection’. In addition to controlling the muscles, it is also involved in learning, memory, decision making, and various other mental activities. Although there are no known direct fat-loss implications of Huperzine A, it may help maintain a cognitive edge during a restricted calorie diet or extended exercise.

Ab Igniter Black contains 125mcg of Huperzine A which is to the higher end of what is generally used (ranges from 50-200mcg).

BIOPERINE

Bioperine is a patented form of Black Pepper Extract which is generally standardized for Piperine. Several studies have found that Piperine can enhance the absorption of various nutrients when co-ingested. This enhanced absorption is due to the inhibition of certain enzymes which breakdown most compounds, as well as the slowing of intestinal transit (increasing the amount of time these compounds are exposed to the possibility of uptake). So, while Bioperine certainly doesn’t have any Testosterone boosting implications, it may enhance the efficacy of the formula in general.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Ab Igniter Black is certainly the most powerful fat-burner from Top Secret so far. With a substantial dose of Caffeine, as well as Yohimbine, Higenamine, and Dihydrocapsiate, Ab Igniter Black will help burn additional fat when paired with regular exercise. Given that formula is intended for once daily consumption, we’d recommend consuming before exercise, and first thing in the morning on off days. Given the hefty dose of Caffeine, we wouldn’t recommend consuming more than one serving per day, but given the effectiveness of the formula, one serving should do the trick.
